karibu (wELCOME)!
We are the community of Transfiguration Parish, Mabatini, Mwanza, Tanzania, East Africa.
Welcome to the website for the Transfirguration Parish . We are thankful that you have taken the time to join us in spirit as our parish grows in faith and community.
The vision for Transfiguration Parish in Mabatini is to create an Ecology of Transformation in Christ, to create the space in an area where there is no space for people come to the freedom of children of God in Christ. Mabatini is a very poor section of a city of one million people in the city of Mwanza, which is located on the southern shores of Lake Victoria. Transfiguration Parish was officially declared a canonical parish on 12 Sept 2004.
Before the Mabatini area was an outstation chapel of the large Bugando Cathedral Parish with 12 small Christian communities and one small outstation chapel. There are an estimated 50,000 to 75,000 people living in the parish. There is a large mixture of tribes with the major tribe being the Wasukuma. Many of the people have moved into the area from the near and far villages. They come looking for a better life, jobs, education, health care and opportunities in their lives.
